Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Deter handles information when you use our website, browser extension, account features, subscription services, and optional AI Rescue Coach. Deter is built to help adults manage their own browsing decisions. It is not monitoring software.

What stays in your browser

Your Protection setting, custom blocked domains, personal reasons, trigger selections, streak state, Strict Mode setting, and Reset state are stored in extension-local browser storage. Blocking rules are enforced by the browser. We do not receive a browsing history, the contents of pages you visit, screenshots, or a remote log of blocked-site attempts.

Account and entitlement information

If you create an account, our authentication and application infrastructure processes your email address, account identifier, authentication metadata, trial start and end times, paid-through status, and limited entitlement state. This information lets us sign you in, prevent repeated trials, and determine whether paid features are available. Authentication may also be completed through Google if you choose that option.

Billing information

Paid checkout and subscription management are handled by Paystack. Deter sends Paystack the verified account email and the plan, amount, currency, and opaque transaction reference required to process the checkout. Deter stores limited billing correlation and subscription state, such as provider customer or subscription identifiers, plan, payment status, renewal or paid-through date, and cancellation state.

Deter does not receive or store your complete card number, CVV, PIN, one-time password, or full payment authorization data. Paystack handles payment details under its own privacy terms.

Optional Rescue Coach

Rescue Coach is used only when you choose to open it. To generate a brief response, limited context may be sent through Deter's server infrastructure to OpenAI, including your selected trigger, one saved reason, streak, current Reset stage, your message, and recent messages from that active Rescue session. A pseudonymous safety identifier is used instead of your raw account identifier or email.

Deter does not save Rescue message content as conversation history. Operational counters and timestamps are retained to enforce session and daily limits, and providers may process request data under their applicable terms and retention controls.

Website and waitlist

The launch website does not include advertising pixels, behavioral analytics, or session replay. If you previously joined the pre-launch waitlist, we collected the normalized email address you submitted and the signup time so we could send confirmation and launch-related communication. Waitlist storage and email delivery may be handled by Supabase and Resend.

Service providers and disclosures

We use service providers where necessary to operate Deter, including Supabase for authentication, database, and server functions; Paystack for payments; OpenAI for optional Rescue Coach responses; Resend for waitlist email delivery; and a website hosting provider. They process information for their respective services and under their own terms.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the security or rights of users and the service, or as part of a business reorganization subject to appropriate safeguards. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

Retention and security

Local extension data remains until you remove it, clear extension storage, or uninstall the extension. Server-side account, entitlement, billing, abuse-prevention, and waitlist records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for service operation, security, legal obligations, and dispute resolution. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can promise absolute security.

Your choices

You can edit or remove local custom sites and reasons through Deter, disable optional Rescue Coach use, cancel renewal while retaining access through the paid period, and request help with account or waitlist data. Browser uninstall behavior and provider-managed account data may differ.

Children

Deter is intended for adults making a personal choice about their own browsing. It is not designed as parental-control software, and we do not knowingly invite children to create accounts.

Changes and contact
